SEATTLE, WA — Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson called for immediate accountability from Seattle authorities Monday following the deadly Bite of Seattle shooting, stating that she would find and punish whoever is responsible for running the city.
“What happened that night was unacceptable,” Wilson said during a press conference at City Hall. “The people of Seattle deserve answers, and whoever was in charge needs to be held accountable.”
Wilson said she had ordered a comprehensive investigation to determine exactly which Seattle official was responsible for overseeing the city during a major public-safety emergency.
According to aides, investigators have already narrowed the list considerably.
“It’s somebody pretty high up,” said one City Hall source. “We’re getting close.”
Wilson vowed that the investigation would follow the evidence wherever it leads.
“We cannot have a system where nobody knows who is in charge,” Wilson said. “There needs to be one person at the top who ultimately takes responsibility when things go wrong.”
The mayor later announced several reforms intended to prevent similar confusion in the future, including clearer chains of command, improved communication between city departments, and a laminated card reminding Wilson of her mayoral duties.
“Accountability remains my administration’s highest priority,” she said. “If mistakes were made, there will be consequences.”
